Speaker at PAX Dev 2017: Blue-Skinned Space Babes & the Triple Goddess in Mass Effect

Well, looks like this fall is going to be packed with speaking engagements - and I couldn't be more excited and grateful! I've just learned that I'll be speaking at PAX Dev for the second time; this year, I'll share how Mass Effect's Asari built upon the Triple Goddess paradigm and how game devs can follow suit to create more dynamic female characters with authentic sexuality and identities. This topic is close to my heart, as I wrote about it for my chapter in the anthology Digital Love: Romance & Sexuality in Games. I'm looking forward to expanding on my written analysis to give game devs concrete steps to apply to their own character development.💙 Copyright Alexandra M. Lucas 2017

Speaker at NEPCA Conference 2017: Greed & Goomahs: Toxic Masculinity in TV's New Golden Age

Excited to announce that I'll be speaking at the 2017 Northeast Popular & American Culture Association Conference in late October! My talk is entitled, "Greed & Goomahs: Toxic Masculinity in TV's New Golden Age." I've dedicated a significant amount of time to analyzing Mad Men, Breaking Bad, and The Sopranos, and I've identified commonalities among the three shows that illustrate the new Golden Age of Television's unabashed critique of toxic masculinity. I'm thrilled to get the chance to share my insights at my first academic conference, and I'm looking forward to returning to the Boston area for the first time in almost 8 years(!). Thanks, and as hungover Dr. Melfi would say, "Toodle-f*ckin
